Mama, I'm coming home - Ozzy Osbourne
Category: Kyrgyzstan
Just wrapping up my travels and wandering around Bishkek. Reading some local english language news papers, like the Times of Central Asia and sipping a beer at Dubovny park. By now i can translate the Cyrillic into Roman, but that still does not mean i understand it.
Some headlines in local news :
- Old machinery hampers Kyrgyz agricultural development
- Presidential election to go live on TV in Kyrgyzstan
- EU provides €300,000 for victims of floods and mudslides in Tajikistan
- Uzbek farmers against the fact that police escorts crops harvesting
- Uzbekistan increases gas supply to Tajikistan almost 3.5 times
- Turkmenistan, China sign gas agreement
- Turkmenistan unaffected by global economic crisis
And of course get some international food and a really good cup of coffee [not the poor-some-water-on-brown-powder-stuff]. Bishkek is a young capital. I wonder what will happen in about a month when elections are being kept at July 23rd. Four years ago it ended in the Tulip Revolution.
Today met Jan and Simone. Well, some people know how to make me jealous. My trip lasted two and a half months and their trip is going to last 2 years or whenever their money is running out, cycling from Holland to Australia. It might be a bit to basic for me cycling and pitching a tent where you can, but anyway. For me it will end in Bishkek
.
I am going to end my trip in style; at the Silk Road Lodge. Way to expensive and it has none of the ammenities all the other hotels had [style is one], but what the heck.
Nergens meer naar toe - Blof
Travelled around Issyk-Kol lake from the south-side to the north-side. This town is packed with russians and kazakhs in august, now it is not that bad. I'll just go check the lake and in the afternoon try and find some ancient petroglyphs. Some date from the Bronze Age, but most are Saka-Usun (8th century BC to 1st century AD). The site was used for sacrificies to the sun gods. Most are of long-horned ibex.
Tomorrow i will head for my final destination: Bishkek. Flying home on Saturday with Turkish Airlines, with a long stopover in Istanbul
. This has already happened, so i should be fine
.
